Jenny Craig
|
Hi! My name is Lyssa Rothrock.
I am in the 6th grade at Bartow Middle School. I am a first year member of the Future Farmers of America.
To the left is my hog, Jenny Craig. Jenny is my first hog, and my first entry in the Polk County Youth Fair. I purchased Jenny Craig on November 2, 2006. She weighed 43 pounds when I got her.
Jenny weighed 64 pounds on November 18, the first official weigh in. I was thrilled to make it into the Youth Fair with her!

Facts about me:
I am 12 years old and attend Bartow Middle School.
I currently have a Grade Point Average of 3.875.
I am a first year Future Farmers of America member.

I am active in my community. I volunteered in election campaigns during the primary and general elections this year. I also help seniors in my neighborhood. |

The Jenny Journal:
| Jenny arrived at Bartow Middle School on November 2, 2006. I picked her to be my hog because she has a long body and spots on her hind quarters. Jenny arrived weighing 43 pounds. She is a Yorkshire Cross. I named her Jenny Craig because I was sitting at the dinner table with my family one evening, and it made us all laugh to think of a hog named Jenny Craig! |

| Jenny's first official weigh in was done on November 18, 2006 at the Polk County Livestock Pavilion. Jenny could weigh no more than 70 pounds at this weigh in. I have to tell you I was wondering about it those last few days and put her on a variation of the Jenny Craig weight management plan. It all worked out in the end. She topped the scales at a svelte 64 pounds! |

I have spent a lot of time caring for Jenny Craig, and have many months to go before I show her at the Youth Fair. I've learned that going out on a cold November night is just something that has to be done to make sure that my Jenny Craig gets fed and is well cared for. Jenny must weigh no less than 230 pounds at weigh in next March to be eligible to be shown in the Youth Fair. I have to make sure that her feeder is always full of food, and her pen stays as clean as I can keep it so that she will grow and stay healthy. |

Jenny is growing nicely. She weighed approximately 200 pounds this weekend. My family purchased a 16' Adams Stock trailer today with which to transport Jenny to the Youth Fair. Pictures of the new trailer are HERE.
We constructed an automatic watering device over the weekend. These devices are required for the hogs on the grounds of the Youth Fair to keep an ample supply of fresh water available for the market hogs. Our watering device is constructed out of PVC pipe with a spout that dispenses water as needed. Jenny is familiar with this device since it is in her enclosure at the Land Lab. I painted the automatic watering system pink to match Jenny! A picture of the PVC water dispenser is on the bottom of THIS page.

March 5 , 2007: UPDATE! Jenny weighs 250 pounds today! Weigh in is in FIVE days!
The Market Hog Show will begin at 2:00pm in the arena at the Livestock Pavilion on Monday, March 12.
The Market Hog Sale will be held in the Livestock arena on Tuesday, March 13, from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
